Defying the Odds is a multimedia presentation created by Mojie and her brother Jason Crigler. Using the dual perspectives of sister/brother and caregiver/survivor, they recount the story of Jason's recovery from a devastating brain hemorrhage.
Since 2009, Mojie and Jason have spoken at more than 50 venues: brain injury associations; stroke and TBI conferences; occupational, physical, and speech therapy conferences; rehabilitation hospitals; research institutes; colleges, high schools, and elementary schools; libraries; and support groups. They brought Defying the Odds to V.A. hospitals in New York and Massachusetts thanks to a 2011 grant from the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care, which honored Jason’s recovery at its annual dinner. In 2009, they testified at a congressional briefing on eliminating lifetime caps on health insurance coverage.
During a medical crisis, you don’t have to go far to hear a worst-case scenario. Mojie and Jason share their story to give people hope and to remind them: there’s always more than one possible scenario.
