Write Your Medical Story
Hello and welcome!
My name is Mojie Crigler. I’m a writer and editor with a special focus on health and medicine.
I wrote a memoir about my brother’s amazing recovery from a stroke, and co-authored a book about neglected tropical diseases. As an editor, I’ve helped many doctors and scientists write a book, on subjects ranging from autism to healthcare to the Ebola crisis in Liberia.
I’ve led hundreds of writing workshops, including for survivors of brain injuries. During the pandemic, I made a podcast called Write Your COVID Story, used by thousands of people. I’ve distilled the best elements of my workshops and podcast to create Write Your Medical Story. This course will guide you through writing about any kind of injury or illness.
By writing about your medical experience, you take control of your narrative. Writing is a way to understand what happened. And it produces a record of an experience that encompasses a lot – perhaps a lot of procedures and treatment, but also a lot feelings.
Writing can improve your physical health. Read the research!
How does WYMS work?
Write Your Medical Story consists of 20 audio episodes. Most episodes are under three minutes long and all are under five minutes. I don’t want you to listen to me lecture. I want you to write!
Each episode has one or two prompts to guide your writing. There are 10 “writing” episodes and 10 “editing” episodes. By the end, you’ll have a finished, polished piece of writing that’s as short or long as you want it to be.
If you get stuck, you’re not alone! After you purchase the course, you’ll have 12 weeks’ access to my live biweekly office hours. Ask questions, find support, and get advice on tackling your obstacles.
